Exemplar Elmsbrook Development, Bicester

Taylor Lane Timber Frame has completed phase two of Elmsbrook, an eco-development by A2 Dominion, in Bicester, Oxfordshire.  Working with main contractor, Hill, the Hereford-based timber frame specialist supplied and erected its 140mm timber frame system, pre-insulated with 100mm PIR, for 73 houses.  Battens, vapour control layer (VCL) and insulation were also supplied, helping to achieve an overall u-value of 0.14 W/m2K.

Timber frame construction was the build method of choice due to its environmental credentials, speed of construction and accuracy.   As an exemplar development for contemporary sustainable living, the thermal performance and CO2 cost of timber were also key considerations.

Part of a plan to build 6,000 new homes in North West Bicester, Elmsbrook will comprise 393 homes; the two, three, four and five bedroom homes will benefit from the latest eco-technologies including solar PV panels.  The local centre will include a primary school, shops, and a community centre.  An eco-business centre will also offer opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs.

Once complete, 30% of the houses will be offered as affordable housing.  There will be zero emissions from each property and 40% of the development will be open, green space.
