Conservation Area, Abergavenny
Taylor Lane Timber Frame supplied its 140mm pre-insulated timber frame kit for a four-bedroom home in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Abergavenny, Wales.
Loyn + Co Architects designed the property to maximise the views, organised around the site’s topography, orientation and access. In response to the sloping nature of the site, the house sits across two levels. The result is a series of connected spaces to eat, socialise and relax.
Timber plays a central role in the design of the house. Alongside the timber frame structure, the homeowners used timber internally and externally – dark stained timber cladding complements the natural surroundings while vertical timbers emphasise the height and space of the interior. Large format glazing is also a dominant feature; this and the timber cladding is juxtaposed by a large masonry chimney at the centre of the house.
This property featured in Grand Designs, special edition 06.
