Nursing Home: Ledbury Community Hospital.
Ledbury Community Hospital was a mile stone in Taylor Lane’s history. In 2001 it was the largest frame we had made and was the biggest single contract in size and value.
The Ledbury Health Facility was built on a town centre site covering 4,500m² it houses a range of health facilities including doctors, dentists, an accident and emergency facility and a nursing home.
A timber frame structure was chosen because it offered both ease and speed of construction, with high thermal values and environmentally friendly credentials. The impressive building was built by Castleoak Construction and was designed by Pentan Partnership of Cardiff for Shaw Homes. It is a three storey building which features a five metre high tower from the eaves and has a floor area of 3,640m².
Due to the massive scale of the £300,000 timber frame, Taylor Lane incorporated new methods of working and innovated technical design solutions. These included provision of a carefully phased production to allow for a smooth and progressive construction on site and special tolerances to be built into the exceptionally long panel runs.
The floor framing system used is The Silent Floor System marketed by Truss Joist. This promises to be ‘Squeak-free’ with a ‘life of structure’ guarantee. The system incorporates the TJI joist which at the time was the first BBA approved high performance engineered timber product of its kind.
Castleoak Construction, the main contractor commented “The floor cassettes are the best manufactured we have ever used”.
Engineered timber products are high quality alternatives to traditional building materials, produced by re-forming timber fibres using a range of advanced patented processes, to create products and components with unparalleled consistency, uniformity and performance.
